HOT OIL THERAPY – External Basti

Ayurvedic procedure consisting of local application (on the chest, lumbar or cervical area), using a small ring made of dough, of warmed oil (obtained by cold pressing) in which suitable medicinal plants have been macerated for 7 days.

External Basti is an Ayurvedic procedure that contributes to a significant improvement in physical and mental well-being, body detoxification and relief from discomfort. Like other procedures based on the warm oil application, the oleation using the dough ring has many therapeutic benefits, the difference being that the therapy is mainly focused on problem areas: chest, lumbar or cervical.

External Basti is recommended for:

  • Pain and inflammation relief
  • Blood circulation stimulation
  • Back problems caused by the sciatic nerve
  • Cervical spondylosis
  • Muscle strains
  • Respiratory problems
  • Colds and flu
  • Rheumatic pains

What the procedure consists of: depending on the problem that needs to be treated, a dough ring is applied to the chest, lumbar or cervical area. A layer of warm oil, in which herbs have been macerated for a few days, is applied inside the ring (to prevent the oil from leaking out). The temperature of the oil is maintained at a constant level throughout the therapy (minimum 20 minutes), it is reheated and gradually added, and at the end, after removing the ring, the area is gently massaged to enhance the oiling effects!

External Basti can also be applied as a method of preventing back, respiratory or spinal problems.
